The New Recruit
By Jill Williamson
About the book:
Forced to choose between military school and a Christian spy organization, skeptic Spencer Garmond signs on with the Bible geeks. But before he even boards the plane for Moscow, Spencer realizes this is no Bible club.
These guys means business.
Stumbling onto a case involving a gang of homeless boys, a chilling tattoo, and the always beautiful Anya Vseveloda, Spencer struggles to find the faith needed to save the Mission League from enemy infiltration.
My thoughts:
Spencer's grandmother has given him two choices, join The Mission League or go to military school, neither of which Spencer wants. Reluctantly, he choose the mission league thinking its a bunch of kids like himself although they study the Bible and are what he calls "churchers". He reasons it has to be better than military boarding school. He soon realizes to his surprise this isn't your ordinary Bible study and he's signed up for the ride of his life, traveling all the way to Moscow, Russia.
Throughout out the journey he learns there's more to life than he has been seeing, begins to questions his beliefs, and ultimately find answers through trusting God and helping others.
I usually don't read fantasy books but this one was pretty good. All of the characters were very realistic and I was constantly being surprised.
